I've been interested since I was about 10 years old when I got my first camera. But, I really didn't get into it until 2 1/2 years ago when I bought my digital camera.

When I joined the club 2 years ago, I learned about composition and camera basics, but I am constantly learning new things about my camera's capabilities, shooting techniques, and becoming more creative with my photos.

I use a Canon 20D digital. I like it because of the clarity, quality of photos, and the 400 lens gets up close to the nature shots that are my favorite.

My favorite subjects are things in nature : birds, butterflies, flowers, landscapes, etc.

I was an Elementary School Teacher for 27 years in Hopkins and Caldwell Counties until I retired from that in November of 2006. I now work for Murray State University as a Science Teacher for the Teacher Education Program at Madisonville Community College each fall semester, and as a University Coordinator who supervises student teachers each spring semester.

My advice for beginning photographers is to be creative and think outside the box.

One of my favorite photography quotes: When out in nature, take only photos and leave only footprints!!

My favorite website is Jim Brandenburg's.

Barn Owl
by Linda Miller

This is one of my first photos that I took with my Canon 20D digital, 2 1/2 years ago. I was at the Nature Station in the Land Between the Lakes.

The barn owl is no longer alive. It was tethered to a post with a fence behind it, but I stood at an angle so that you couldn't see the fence and the trees in the background came out very dark, which accented the owl's feather's.
